This page provides important information about the Food Handler Certificate Training Program. These details are provided in accordance with ANSI/ASTM E2659-18 Standard 5.5.1 and are available to all prospective learners in advance of registration or enrollment.

Program Purpose and Scope

The Food Handler Certificate Training Program is designed to provide essential food safety training to individuals who handle, prepare, or serve food in restaurants or other food service establishments.

This self-paced, online course offers foundational knowledge on preventing foodborne illness, promoting hygiene, and following safe food handling practices.

Intended Learning Outcomes

By completing this course, learners will be able to:

  • Identify the major causes of foodborne illness
  • Recognize actions that prevent contamination and the spread of illness
  • Recall proper procedures for safe storage and food preparation
  • Identify safe food temperatures during delivery, cooking, and reheating
  • Recognize cleaning and sanitizing procedures for a hygienic kitchen

Requirements to Earn the Certificate

To earn a certificate of completion, learners must:

  • Enter their date of birth before training begins (this appears on the certificate and serves as a unique identifier for verification purposes)
  • Watch all five training video segments in full (no skipping)
  • Complete a 40-question multiple choice assessment
  • Achieve a minimum passing score of 80%

Learners are allowed up to three attempts to pass the final assessment. If a learner fails three times, they must rewatch the entire training video before attempting the exam again. This ensures learners have fully reviewed the material before a fourth and final attempt. Certificates are issued immediately upon successful completion of the course and final assessment.

Instructor Qualifications

The course content was created and reviewed by subject matter experts with experience in food safety, public health, and food service operations. Course materials are reviewed annually to ensure alignment with current regulations and industry best practices.
